Stadium: Beaver Stadium
The seventh expansion of Beaver Stadium, which boosted capacity to 107,282 seats, was unveiled against Miami on September 1, 2001. The stadium's capacity is the nation's second-largest, topped only by Michigan Stadium (107,501). Work began on the $93 million project in November 1999 immediately following the last home game. On August 23, 2001 the stadium was turned over to the University after passing the Department of Labor and Industry inspection. The expansion and renovation project has added a second deck in the South end zone as well as an East side pavilion with 60 enclosed suites. A club level seating section (4,000 seats) and stadium club, the Mount Nittany Lounge, are included in the South stands.

Season Preview:
So many returning players at the skill positions on offense, plus a linebacker unit led by Dan Connor and a secondary highlighted by Justin King should have Penn State in the thick of the conference race in November. Teammates long have had confidence in Austin Scott, since he's been around for so long. And the senior wanted so badly to start that he redshirted last year so he could take over the role this year with the departure of Tony Hunt. Aside from a couple questions on the offensive line, Scott's insertion as the feature back is the biggest question on the offense -- and Scott has over 900 career rushing yards for Penn State, so he's hardly an unknown commodity. QB Anthony Morelli returns with the priority of getting the ball into the hands of Derrick Williams more often. Williams' only two offensive touchdowns last year came in the opener against Akron. For a player so talented, that's unacceptable. Dan Connor is the new middle linebacker, taking over for Paul Posluszny, the school's all-time leading tackler. Connor can now make a run at most of Posluszny's records -- he's that good. CB Justin King was already one of the top cornerbacks in the Big Ten, but he spent the offseason bulking up a bit to better handle the tackling aspect of defense. The defense's biggest concern is replacing three starters on the line to go with DE Josh Gaines, the team's lone returning starter. Return units should again be strong with Derrick Williams handling punt returns and A.J. Wallace handling kickoff returns. The pair was near the top of the Big Ten in most return categories last year. The problems could be in kicking. Kevin Kelly struggled through leg injuries and confidence issues to miss 12 of his 34 attempts, while a new punter must be found to replace the consistent Jeremy Kapinos.
