Ohio Stadium
Nestled snugly on the banks of the Olentangy River, stately Ohio Stadium is one of the most recognizable landmarks in all of college athletics. Built in 1922 at a cost of $1.3 million and renovated in 2001 at a cost of nearly $194 million, the horseshoe-shaped structure is now in its 83rd year as the home of Buckeye football. With its present seating capacity of 101,568, Ohio Stadium is the fourth largest on-campus facility in the nation. Since the opening game against Ohio Wesleyan on Oct. 7, 1922, more than 36 million fans have streamed through the stadium’s portals.

Season Preview:
They played for a national title last year and got crushed, but expecting the Buckeyes to return to the title game is a reach. With 12 starters to replace, including at every important skill position on offense, Ohio State is probably a year away from being back near the top of the college football world. Chris Wells will get a majority of the carries at tailback as Jim Tressel returns to a more traditional offense. Wells should have the talent and enough carries to make a run at 1,500 yards. Junior Todd Boeckman is the early favorite to replace Troy Smith at quarterback, but Boeckman has thrown exactly one touchdown pass in his career. Six starters need to be replaced, including three-fourths of the defensive line. The lone returner up front, DE Vernon Gholston, is a star in the making, but he needs help. LB James Laurinaitis needs the linemen to tie up blockers in front of him or he won't come close to last year's total of 115 tackles. The offense was so good last year, PK Aaron Pettrey attempted just four field goals inside 40 yards. Now a sophomore, Pettrey should get plenty more chances this year. The biggest concern right now has to be the return teams. Without Ted Ginn, Jr., former high school teammate Ray Small will get the first shot as the primary return man. P A.J. Trapasso is also back after averaging 40.6 yards per punt.
