Stadium:
Navy Marine Corps Memorial Stadium
Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium is a stadium in Annapolis, Maryland. It was built as a memorial to the Navy and Marine Corps, and the stadium is dedicated to those who have served and will serve as upholders of the traditions and renown of the Navy and Marine Corps of the United States. The thousands of memorial benchback and wall plaques are a constant reminder of this fact, as well as the list of numerous battles involving the Naval and Marine Corps forces since the early 1900s. It is primarily used for American football, and is the home field of the United States Naval Academy "Midshipmen". Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium opened in 1959 and holds 35,000 people. The stadium was dedicated on September 26, 1959, when Navy defeated William & Mary 29-2. On October 14, 2006, a record crowd of 36,918 were in attendance at Navy's homecoming game in a loss to Rutgers. The Naval Academy also uses this facility for its lacrosse matches. Navy played their homes games at Thompson Stadium prior to 1959.

Season Preview:
It's reasonable to expect that Navy will struggle because of having only two returning starters on defense, but the situation isn't dire enough that the Mids should miss out on another postseason game. The offense will be good, and the schedule is certainly manageable enough for another winning season. Interesting, though, that both rival service academies have new head coaches. Navy has all the pieces to continue to roll along and be one of the top rushing teams in the country. The key skill position players return, including speedy slotback Reggie Campbell, FBs Adam Ballard and Eric Kettani, WR O.J. Washington and other slotbacks Shun White and Zerbin Singleton. Navy isn't changing a thing ... and defenses still will have a tough time stopping it. In the best of times, Navy's defense is undersized and not as athletic as those found in BCS conferences. Now, the Mids have to deal with inexperience. They will sorely miss the leadership and tackling of LBs Rob Caldwell, Tyler Tidwell and David Mahoney. Navy's kicking game is nothing special, and the Midshipmen didn't even attempt a field goal of longer than 39 yards last season. Both of last year's place-kickers return -- Joey Bullen (injured much of the year) and Matt Harmon. Punting was merely adequate in 2006. Greg Veteto is back after averaging 38.1 yards. The return name is not usually a strength, but Campbell gives Navy the chance to have something special on kick returns. He had a 72-yarder last season.
