Stadium: Papa John Stadium
Papa John's Cardinal Stadium allows an up-and-coming professional city become a college town on Saturdays every autumn as the Cardinals play host to a number of national-caliber opponents. The opening of the facility allowed U of L to play seven home games for the second time in 51 years during the 2000 campaign. Fans are treated to a one-of-a-kind feature in PJCS with all 42,000 seats being of the chairback variety. No other university-owned and operated stadium in the nation can make that claim.

Season Preview:
The rumors and reports over when and if Bobby Petrino was going to leave finally came to an end, with a surprise move by the very successful coach to the NFL's Atlanta Falcons. Steve Kragthorpe, who had great success putting the Tulsa program back on the map, was quickly hired and inherits a very good football team that should again challenge for the Big East title. The Cardinals were 12-1 last year and return seven players who were either first or second team All Big East last season. When you start with Brian Brohm, well, that's a good place to start. The senior Heisman candidate has dealt with injuries each of the past two seasons, which is why he's still at Louisville. If he gets hurt again, Hunter Cantwell, the best backup in the land, takes over and the offense still runs. Brohm has his two ace wide receivers -- Harry Douglas and Mario Urrutia -- back after word spread in 2006 word one or both would leave for the pros. Kragthorpe will do some different things, but there's not much reason to tinker with the success on this side of the ball. "I think it's big for our defense right now that the guys they're facing every day are pretty darn good football players," defensive coordinator Mike Cassity said during spring drills. "It's a good opportunity for our defense to see a lot of multiple looks and multiple personnel packages." The often-overlooked Cardinal defense, which lost three starters in the secondary and NFLer Amobi Okoye up front, is constantly on a crusade to show it's pretty good, too. Look for linebacker Malik Jackson, considered one of the guys who might have left after last season, to have a big year. Art Carmody (21-for-25 field goals, 60-for-60 extra points) was won the Lou Groza Award as the nation's top kicker and was also the All Big East kicker last season; so you know all is well on that front. Corey Goettsche and Todd Flannery were competing for the punter's job and JaJuan Spillman had a 100-yard kickoff return last season.
