Commonwealth Stadium
The stadium was officially opened on Sept. 15, 1973, as the Wildcats moved into their new home after spending 48 years at Stoll Field/McLean Stadium across from Memorial Coliseum. Kentucky defeated Virginia Tech in the stadium opener, 31-26, as quarterback Ernie Lewis ran for two touchdowns and threw for another TD to lead the Wildcats. Since its opening, Kentucky has played 206 games within the friendly confines of Commonwealth Stadium. And indeed, a 107-95-4 record and a .529 winning percentage is evidence that Commonwealth is a home field advantage for the Wildcats.

Season Preview:
Kentucky took a big step last season by going 8-5, earning its first bowl since 1999 and beating Clemson in the Music City Bowl. Now comes the tough part: proving it wasn't a fluke and doing something it hasn't done since 1983-84 by put together two consecutive winning seasons. The return of 17 starters and some of the SEC's best offensive playmakers gives the Wildcats a chance, but with six likely pre-season Top 25 teams on the schedule the defense must make significant progress. OFFENSE: Between QB Andre Woodson, TB Rafael Little, WRs Keenan Burton and Dicky Lyons and TE Jacob Tamme, the Wildcats are blessed with some of the SEC's best offensive skill players. Add two vastly improved backs in Tony Dixon and Alfonso Smith and the Wildcats have to horses to run in the SEC. The question now is do they have the beef up front? The offensive line overcame a series of took injuries last season. Now, it must overcome graduation losses, more injuries and academic concerns this time around. The Wildcats finally showed some tangible progress at the end of the season by holding Tennessee and Clemson to a combined 37 points. When defensive coordinator Mike Archer left for N.C. State coach Rich Brooks promoted Steve Brown, who inherits a defense that returns 19 of 22 members of the Music Bowl two-deep depth chart. Players such as LBs Wesley Woodyard, CB Trevard Lindley and DL Myron Pryor, Jeremy Jarmon and Corey Peters are among the SEC's better defensive players, but the Wildcats still need more depth and experience. While Kentucky has been outstanding in the return game the past two seasons with Little on punts and Burton on kickoffs, both K Lones Seiber and P Tim Masthay have a lot left to prove after struggling through most of 2006. Incoming freshman Wade Tydlacka will get a chance to compete for both jobs in August.
