Stadium:
Jack Trice Stadium
Without a doubt, the 55,000-seat Jack Trice Stadium is one of the most beautiful nationally. Located on a 30-acre tract, the stadium is part of the ISU Center on the southeast corner of the Ames campus. The special football atmosphere at Jack Trice Stadium has been enhanced with the installation of a video/scoreboard and permanent lighting prior to the 2002 season. The stadium is named in honor of Jack Trice, Iowa State’s first African-American athlete. Trice died from injuries he received in a varsity football game in October 1923.

Season Preview:
The initial prognosis for Iowa State is not good, considering the program has undergone a coaching change and the Cyclones were the worst team in the Big 12 last season. But it could be they woefully underachieved with potential stars such as QB Bret Meyer, WR Todd Blythe and LB Alvin Bowen. More defensive consistency is a must for Iowa State to make a move within the Big 12 North. SCOUTING THE OFFENSE This unit was considered so strong last season when it returned all but one starter that many predicted the Cyclones would flourish simply by outscoring opponents. That never materialized and now Iowa State must return all but four starters, though the potentially lethal combination of QB Bret Meyer and WR Todd Blythe remains intact. SCOUTING THE DEFENSE Iowa State allowed more yards (6.1) per snap than any team in the Big 12 last season and often failed to get off the field until opponents scored. First-year coach Gene Chizik brings a defensive background, which should toughen this unit, but the Cyclones have numerous holes to fill, particularly along their front line.
