Stadium:
Sanford Stadium
Named for the late Dr. S. V. Sanford, former president of the University and Chancellor of the University system, Georgia's Sanford Stadium marked its 75th anniversary in 2004. An overflow crowd of 30,000 saw the stadium's first game on October 12, 1929, when Yale University made its only trip South. Georgia won the now famous game when a young sophomore end from Macon, Vernon "Catfish" Smith, scored all 15 of the Bulldogs’ points. Final score, Georgia 15, Yale 0.

Season Preview:
Georgia played well down the stretch in 2006 but the Bulldogs return only 12 starters, including only four on defense. They do return 45 lettermen but those young players, especially on defense, will continue to compete for starting jobs in the preseason. In the meantime, Georgia has a lot to prove on the offensive and defensive lines. Coach Mark Richt's base offense remains the same, but new offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, who replaced Richt as the play-caller, has added his own ideas to the offense. QB Matthew Stafford continues to improve in his second spring and the receivers and tailbacks showed positive signs, but the offensive line still has holes to fill. The Bulldogs lost three starters up front and entered the spring with so many concerns that true freshman Trinton Sturdivant earned a starting job at left tackle just three months after enrolling in school. With the expected return of only four (now three) defensive starters, the Bulldogs needed a big spring. It didn't happen, so now they need an even better August, especially since their MVP, CB Paul Oliver, will be MIA. Oliver was ruled academically ineligible in the spring and won't play for the Bulldogs. That places immense pressure on CB Bryan Evans and FS Kelin Johnson. They give the Bulldogs a good start, but DT Jeff Owens is the only returning starter on a line that lost standout DEs Charles Johnson and Quentin Moses, and there's still a lot to be determined among the LB corps. PK Brandon Coutu is back for his senior season after missing seven games in 2006 with a hamstring injury. He's a legitimate All-American candidate and Asher Allen, Thomas Flowers and WR Mikey Henderson are dangerous returners. Georgia continues to look for a punter. The answer could be signee Drew Butler.
