Stadium: Bulldog Stadium
One of the most complete and aesthetically pleasing stadiums in the Western Athletic Conference, Bulldog Stadium has served as the home of Fresno State football since the 1980 season. Entering its 25th season of hosting the Bulldogs, the facility has established itself as one of the most difficult places to win for visiting teams. Fresno State has gone 122-30-2 at Bulldog Stadium since 1980, good for a winning percentage of nearly 80 percent. Even more impressive is the team's success since 1999, during which time the Bulldogs have gone 30-4. Included in that record are victories over Oregon State (twice), Colorado State and California. Since Pat Hill took over as head coach in 1997, Fresno State is 38-7 (.844) at home.

Season Preview:
A streak of seven consecutive bowl appearances ended with a forgettable 4-8 effort last season, the worst of Hill's 10-year tenure. He told his players it's time to build a "new ladder" in 2007, but whether the Bulldogs can climb back into WAC contention will depend on whether QB Tom Brandstater can regain his confidence and pump new life into an offense that generated just 23 points per game in '06, down from 37.8 in 2005. Seven starters return, including four linemen who opened holes for the WAC's No. 2 rushing attack (180 yards per game) and set a school record by surrendering just 12 sacks -- four of which came at LSU. RB Clifton Smith is back to his pre-2005 injury form, but the top spot on the depth chart looks like Lonyae Miller's to lose. Look for four-and five-WR sets this fall with so much talent at receiver in Chastin West, burner Marlon Moore, Seyi Ajirotutu and springy Jason Crawley. There were position battles everywhere in the spring, with only a few starters returning for a unit that ranked fourth in the WAC in 2006 (362.9 yards per game). Setting the tone is a healthy (finally) contingent of linebackers, with Marcus Riley and Quaadir Brown back from injuries and Ahijah Lane (64 tackles) back in the middle. DE Tyler Clutts (five sacks) and DT Jason Shirley are potential game-changers up front, but Hill says all four spots in the secondary are up for grabs. CB Damon Jenkins is the lone senior and the only defensive back who intercepted a pass last year. Few changes are planned for a unit that ranked 115th in net punting and 118th in punt-return yards last season out of 119 programs, with assistant coach John Baxter insisting that better execution and team chemistry will turn things around. K Clint Stitser (11 of 16 FGs) and P Kyle Zimmerman (36.8-yard average) anchor the kicking game. Two seasons removed from a knee injury, return specialist Clifton Smith has regained his mobility and forms a dangerous tandem with West. Flashy and fearless recruit Devon Wylie will be in the mix when he arrives on campus.
