What is now Jordan-Hare Stadium was first opened and dedicated on Nov. 30, 1939, at the Auburn-Florida game. Season Preview:
The foundation is solid for a program coming off an 11-2 season with a 33-5 record and three top-15 finishes over the past three seasons but the Tigers lost 12 starters and must play road games at Florida, Arkansas, LSU and Georgia. No area is a bigger concern than the offensive line, where the Tigers lost four starters. The offense also lost tailback Kenny Irons and wide receiver Courtney Taylor, but returns senior quarterback Brandon Cox, who has a lot to prove after struggling with injuries throughout the 2006 season. The coaches are confident there are plenty of playmakers at tailback, fullback, receiver and tight end but the real key will be an offensive line anchored by left tackle King Dunlop. With the return of Cole Bennett, Tommy Trott and Gabe McKenzie, Auburn returns three of the SEC's best tight ends. Quentin Groves' decision to return for his senior season gives defensive coordinator Will Muschamp more versatility, including the chance to use more 3-4 looks allowing Groves to move between defensive end and outside linebacker. The Tigers entered the spring with depth on the defensive front and continued to build more depth, allowing standout sophomore SenDerrick Marks to move from tackle to end. There's talent at linebacker, but none of the players are proven full-time contributors. The Tigers return three starters and several experienced reserves in the secondary but must continue to look for the right combination. Auburn has been outstanding in the kicking game in recent seasons but the Tigers have a lot of work to do to replace punter Kody Bliss, kicker John Vaughn and kickoff specialist Matt Clark. Tristan Davis and redshirt freshman Mario Fannin bring plenty of potential to the return game. Junior Brad Lester emerged from the spring as the first-string tailback but Fannin and sophomore Ben Tate both made a move in the spring and enter the preseason right behind Lester.
