Stadium:
Sun Devil Stadium
One of the most aesthetic, dynamic, innovative and beautiful collegiate stadiums in the nation, Arizona State University's Sun Devil Stadium has played host to some of the best football games for more than four decades. It has hosted Arizona State University football games since 1958, including the game on Sept. 21, 1996, when the playing surface was named Frank Kush Field as ASU upset top-ranked Nebraska 19-0 . It has hosted three national championships - Notre Dame versus West Virginia in 1988, Nebraska versus Florida in 1996 and Tennessee versus Florida State in 1999. And it has hosted the NFL's ultimate showcase - the 1996 Super Bowl, when the Dallas Cowboys pulled out a close win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Season Preview:
ASU coach Dennis Erickson knows what it takes to win national titles. The first-year Sun Devil coach has a potent offense with QB Rudy Carpenter regaining his confidence after faltering in 2006. Combine Carpenter's passing skills with a 1,000-yard rusher in Ryan Torain and there should be good balance. More importantly, Erickson is initiating a quick, attacking defense that has already made great strides. Carpenter admits he tried too hard a year ago after the controversial switch that made him, not Sam Keller, the starter days before the season-opener. A more laid-back Carpenter has ASU playing more at ease. The junior threw for 23 touchdowns and 2,523 yards in a rough season. TB Ryan Torain is back after gaining 1,229 yards and scoring seven times last season. Young receivers need to grow up, but the materials are there for breakout season. The Sun Devils' defense was atrocious in 2005. That same unit grew up dramatically a year ago, allowing just 117 yards per game, the lowest average posted by the team since 1997. Key cogs return with sack leader Dexter Davis in the mix as well as Josh Barnett at safety. Look for more blitzes and a quicker pace to the scheme, with linebackers being asked to do more. The Sun Devils have a huge void to fill in replacing Jesse Ainsworth. Thomas Weber is expected to get the call, but in the final spring scrimmage he missed from 36 and 48 yards. He also converted a 52-yard attempt. ASU is accustomed to nothing but consistency over the past four years, and Weber has been hot-and-cold. P Jonathan Johnson had a 41-yard average a year ago. Big-play returners were few last season and several players are in the mix to field kicks in 2007. TB Shaun DeWitty missed the entire spring with a sore back, and could end up redshirting the 2007 season. He was a third-down back in 2006. Senior OL Zach Krula, after missing most of the past two seasons with injuries, has played throughout the spring after receiving an extra year of eligibility from the NCAA. The former offensive guard is now playing right tackle.
